Oil painting hardships.

So I have been working on this painting off and on... mostly off. I wanted to start oil painting again but was not sure what to paint. I ended up deciding to try a self portrait. What. Was. I. Thinking?!
I could not have picked a more stressful subject. Of all things to paint/draw, people are the hardest for me, and of all people, I have always had the hardest time drawing myself. I do like to challenge myself, but jesus, that was too much. I ended up stressing more over the likeness (which really looks nothing like me) than focusing on the actual painting process (experimenting with the diff ways to use oils) I spent more time staring at the painting then actually painting it. Today I finally got fed up and am going to put off this painting till I become much more comfortable with the process. I'll post what I have, even though I'm not that proud, cause hey, it's something, and who knows, maybe some of you out there might have some suggestions.

Meanwhile, I will paint subjects I really enjoy painting, like nature. I recently saw a picture of an awesome tree so that is my inspiration for my next painting. Pics to come later of that.

Ok enough bitching. Here is the portrait, so far. (buh)

P.S. Sorry for the negativity, I promise my next post will be a positive one!

Sketch Tuesdays

So I finally went to my first Sketch Tuesday event. It's this thing held at 111Minna where artists come together, sketch and drink. It is super chill and fun. Here are my drawings from the night.

Game on!

So fairly recently I got an iphone. Through this lovely device I have realized the joy of mobile gaming. I think it might be a fun thing to illustrate for games so I have taken on a two part project. My friend Shandy (what up!) had the idea to recreate this game he loves (Settlers Of Catan). Together we are designing the board for A. a wood cut board he is doing at tech shop, and B. a mobil game version of the board game. So far it has been a lot of fun. Here are some samples of sketches for some of the pieces for the game (so far). I will update as we have more designs and more final versions.
